Saying that sport is developing successfully in our country, Youths and Sport
minister Azad Rahimov stressed that our sportsmen won for about 300 medals at
the international contests on Olympic and Non-Olympic Sports during past 8
months of this year. Our national team took 11th place among 205 countries in
Singapore Olympic Games, 3rd place among CIS countries, 1st place among Islamic
countries and 6th place among European states. Besides the minister brought into
the attention of the participants that basin complex will be constructed for the
sportsmen in Azerbaijan in 2011. He also added that the Olympic Complex situated
in Dashkesen region will be reconstructed for summer camp for the youths. The
minister also said that the meeting of the sport ministers of the European
countries will be held in Azerbaijan for the first time.Mentioning that
cooperation agreement was signed with Jordan, Egypt and Kuwait Azad Rahimov
stated that intergovernmental document will also be signed with Livia, Tunis,
Russian Federation and Marrakech till the end of the year. Youth and Sport
minister also touched upon the activity of book-maker offices in our
country.Speaking about the writings on sale or pulling down of cycle track in
the capital the minister stressed that the repair works of the cycle track will
be included in 2011 investment program. The minister said that the number of the
measures on activity of the youths will be increased within the youth’s year.
Azad Rahimov also mentioned that the problems on women football will be
eliminated and final of world championship among 17aged girls will be held in
Azerbaijan. Speaking about the participation of Vugar Hamishov in Gari
Kasparov’s team the minister underlined that this is not a worthy behavior of
a sportsman successfully representing Azerbaijan and added that our chess-player
did not give any explanation about it. The minister stressed that holding of
Eurovision dance contest in our country was postponed because only 10 countries
were to take part in the contest. Therefore 75 public televisions from Europe
rejected to show the contest.
