It is caused by the lack of contestants

The EBU with its partners aims at changing the format of EDC next year to make the contest more popular and financially more sustainable. This decision will enable the EBU members to conduct longer and improved selection processes. Despite the postponement of the contest the EBU family appreciates the perspectives of EBU’s young members.
“Our partners observed the preparation works of National Broadcaster Ictimai and Azerbaijani officials for this contest and decided to postpone it to next year for ensuring the interests of partners. At present concrete plans are being made for holding the contest in 2010. The program of the contest is planned to be significantly changed in accordance with these plans”, said Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Dance Contest Tal Barnea.
The plans are expected to be made public in autumn. Early this month, Director of Eurovision TV Bjorn Erichsen stated that organizational problems of the dance contest were connected with the world crisis: “A number of European channels reduced their budgets. And we considerably reduced membership dues of our Azerbaijani partners compared with the last year”.
He also added that the Azerbaijani organizers studying the difficulties of the existing situation suggested possible variants for solving the issue.
